FLYING TRAINING IN SOUTH AFRICA
Poetic Pilot Academy have partnered with FTOs which are South African Civil Aviation Authority (SA-CAA) approved and have approved training syllabus. All training is documented and maintained to SA-CAA standards.
Flight Training Organisations in SA also trains you in accordance with DGCA requirements. Upon successful completion, students will earn SA – CPL ME/ER and required DGCA flight hours, which will allow you to convert your licenses and ratings upon return to India.
As an Indian CPL holder, you become eligible to apply for
vacancies in commercial airlines, charters in India and finally
fulfil your dream to become an Airline Pilot.
WHY SOUTH AFRICA?
Flying training in South Africa is often cheaper than India due to lower operational costs, favourable exchange rates, and less congested airspace. Flight schools in South Africa offer internationally recognized licenses with high training standards, modern aircraft, and excellent weather conditions for year-round flying. As a result, many aspiring pilots choose South Africa for more affordable and efficient pilot training.
ELIGIBILITY
Before starting Flight training in SA, Students are recommended to have these requirements:
- Age:Be at least 16 years old
- Education: Have passed 10+2 standard or equivalent with Physics and Maths. Medical, Commerce, arts students can give Physics or Maths through NIOS.
- Medical Fitness Requirement:Minimum DGCA Class I Medical CA35
- English Language Proficiency:Both verbal and written
- Pass the DGCA CPL theory exams 1 Air Navigation 2 Meteorology 3 Air Regulations 4 RTR
- Apply For Student Visa – M1 after getting enrolled in an FTO

TRAINING IN SOUTH AFRICA
Upon arrival in SA, students are warmly received at the airport by the flight school’s designated representatives and transported to their accommodation. Comfortable housing is arranged close to the training facility, and daily transportation is provided to and from the flight school, ensuring convenience and safety. This
seamless travel arrangement allows students to focus on their training without worrying about commuting, making their learning experience hassle-free and efficient.
Flying training manoeuvres in South Africa follow international standards and include a mix of basic and advanced flight techniques. Student pilots start with fundamental manoeuvres such as straight-and-level flight, climbs, descents, and turns, before progressing to more complex exercises like stalls, slow flight, and steep turns. Emergency procedures, such as forced landings and engine failure recovery, are also practiced extensively. Advanced students train in spin recovery, crosswind landings, instrument flying, and navigation exercises. With vast open airspace and favourable weather conditions, South Africa provides an ideal environment for mastering these essential flying skills
IN SA students complete 200 hours of flight hours including DGCA requirement -
100 hours pilot in command (PIC),
50 hours solo 100 NM cross country,
15 hours of night
20 hours instrument flight.
15 hours of Multi Engine
To obtain a CPL under the SACAA, students must also pass 19 theoretical exams. These exams cover essential aviation knowledge areas, ensuring pilots meet international standards. These exams are structured to test a pilot’s theoretical proficiency before they proceed to the practical flying tests required for CPL certification. The SACAA system aligns with EASA-style regulations, making South African CPL training internationally recognized.
Duration: Flight training takes an average of 12 months, depending on weather, students availability and learning skills
Fleet in SA
185 hours will be flown on single engine, 15 hours on Multi engine and 20 hours of Simulator Training.
Single Engine – Cessna-152,172. Diamond DA-40. Piper Archer III, Cherokee PA28.
Multi Engine – Piper Seneca PA34, PA30. Diamond DA42.
CONVERSION TO INDIAN CPL
After completion Students come back to INDIA for mandatory conversion flying/checks. Approx 9 hours of flying is completed over the course of 2 weeks. DGCA will issue INDIAN COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENSE with Multi Rating – CPL IR/ME once various documents are submitted including –
